2007-2008 Activities

On 14th of April 2008, Ms. Ulrike Hauer, Head of Section for Trade, Economy and Agriculture of the Delegation of European Commission to Turkey delivered a speech on current developments in EU-Turkey economic relations.

On 7-8 April 2008, an international workshop on Economic and Social Impact of International Retirement Migration was organised in Antalya.

AN INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON EUROPEANISATION AND DOMESTIC CHANGE WAS ORGANISED ON 14 MARCH 2008, WITH PARTICIPATION OF ACADEMICS FROM MIDDLE EAST TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR EUROPEAN STUDIES AND PROF. KEVIN FEATHERSTONE FORM LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS.

A conference on “Turkey in the Accession Process and Turkey in the Neighbouring Regions: New Horizons and Collaboration Opportunities” was organised on 10th of December, 2007 by the Department, as the first activity of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Economic Integration. The event was organised in collaboration with the Foundation for Economic Development (IKV) and Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO).

On 3 December 2007, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Hikmet Çetin delivered a speech at the department on Turkish-US Strategic Partnership and the European Union.

On 14 November 2007, Chief Consultant for the President of the Republic, Mr. Ahmet Sever visited the department and delivered a speech on current issues in Turkey-EU relations.

A workshop was organised on 5 November 2007 with participation of Prof. Heinz Kramer from German Institute for International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik). During the workshop, Professor Kramer has delivered a speech titled “Complexity, Conditionality, Security and Identity – factors for explaining the EU’s behaviour on Turkey’s accession”.
