CONFERENCE on “ATLANTIC’S ODYSSEY”

Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Center for Research and Implementation for Occupational Health, and the Department of International Business and Trade at Faculty of Business organised a conference entitled “Atlantic’s Odyssey” on June3, 2016. The conference was given by Prof. Dr. Dimitris Michalopoulos from Athens Historical Institute for Studies on Eleutherios Venizelos at Dokuz Eylül University European Documentation Centre.

Following the opening speeches by Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of Department of the EU, and Prof. Dr. Canan Madran, Head of Department of International Business and Trade, Prof. Dr. Dimitris Michalopoulos delivered a speech based on his recent research on the Euro-Mediterranean history. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Michalopoulos presented historical information about the Homer, who is known as the founder of European literature, and his well-known works: the Iliad and the Odyssey. Prof. Dr. Michalopoulos emphasized that the knowledge of geography as we have today was not unfamiliar to ancient peoples. He said that if we analyze the writings of Homer carefully, we can see that Odysseus’s legendary journey was not limited to the Aegean Sea and he could reach out to the Atlantic Ocean as well. Prof. Dr. Michalopoulos also emphasized the importance of common understanding for Euro-Mediterranean history and proposed a holistic approach to analyze it.

After Prof. Dr. Michalopoulos’ speech the conference continued with Q&A session. At the end of the conference Prof. Dr. Erdut and Prof. Dr. Madran presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Michalopoulos.

JEAN MONNET CHAIR IN EUROPEAN SOCIAL POLICY CONFERENCE

Within the framework of Erasmus+ Programme of the EU Commission, DEU Center for Research and Implementation for Occupational Health (ISAMER) and Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences directed by Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut organised the conference “Industrial Relations and Social Inclusion in the European Union and Turkey

Academicians from various universities, representatives from employer & worker trade unions and representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security participated to the Jean Monnet activity held in four sessions on May 20, 2016 at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Following the opening speech by the Head of the Jean Monnet Chair, Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut, participants made presentations on industrial relations in the EU and Turkey on topics including current trends, trade unions and social inclusion in Turkey during the EU accession process.

 

Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut, Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy and the Head of the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences, made his presentation “Evaluation of the Industrial Relations Systems in the EU and Turkey” in the first session, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Selamoğlu from the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations at Kocaeli University.

 

In the second session moderated by Dr. Naci Önsal from the Head of the Research and Education Centre at Turkish Metal Union; Prof. Dr. Ahmet Selamoğlu from the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations at Kocaeli University made his presentation  “The Impact of the 2008 Crisis on Industrial Relations/Working Conditions in the EU” followed “Consequences of Violations of Trade Union Rights, Reviews of Audit Institutions and Discussion of a Case” by Prof. Dr. Kuvvet Lordoğlu; lastly “The Current Status of Subcontractors Employed in Public Sector” by Lütfi İnciroğlu, Vice President of Labour, Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

 

After the lunch, Cengiz Delibaş from TISK, Güven Savul from TURK-IS and Attorney Hüseyin Öz from HAK-IS participated to the third session, entitled “Trade Unions in the EU Accession Process” moderated by Prof. Dr. Kuvvet Lordoğlu. Representatives of the trade unions highlighted their support for Turkey’s EU process and repeated their call for the fulfilment of the pre-conditions for the opening of the 19th Chapter: Social Policy and Employment. Participants also underlined the obstacles and troubles against the implementations of the EU reforms; pointed to the importance and necessity of employment generation, improvement of the quality of living and working conditions, establishing an appropriate social protection systems, establishing social dialogue with social partners, struggle against social exclusion and poverty, providing equal opportunities for men and women.

 

In the last session, entitled “Social Inclusion in the EU and Turkey” moderated by Prof. Dr. Tijen Erdut from Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations;Jean Monnet Chair Prof. Dr. Angelo Santagostino from Yıldırım Beyazıt University discussed the economic and social impacts of the Euro Crisis. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Faruk Sapancalı fromDokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations made his presentation “Social Inclusion in the EU”. Finally Assoc. Prof. Dr. Recep KaparfromMugla Sitki Kocman University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations made his presentation“Exclusion from the Social Protection in Turkey and Women”. The protection of the European Social Model has been pointed out as a necessity both for the EU and candidates at the Conference in which the impacts of the Euro Crisis were discussed.

 

With the contributions of panellists and the audience, the Question-Answer session turned into a platform for the exchange of ideas and solutions.

WORKSHOP on INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS and POLITICAL SCIENCE

8th Workshop on International Relations and Political Science was held on May 2nd, 2016 at Dokuz Eylul University Graduate School of Social Sciences. With the participation of graduate students from related departments of universities in Izmir, crticial issues such as time and stres management, budget plannig were discussed in the workshop.

New Perspectives in Turkey-EU Relations

The meeting entitled “New Perspectives in Turkey-EU Relations” was held at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Business on 28 April 2016 in cooperation of Economic Development Foundation (IKV) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Following the opening speech of Jean Monnet Chair and Head of the Department of European Union Prof. Zeki Erdut, IKV Junior Researcher Büşra Çatır made a presentation of the studies published by IKV on the European Commission Progress Reports entitled “Mathematics of Progress” and “Linguistics of Progress”.

 

The meeting continued with a panel moderated by IKV Project Director Çisel İleri. Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Business Department of Political Science and International Relations Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Kentmen, IKV Secretary-General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas, Marmara University European Union Institute Head of Department of EU Politics and International Relations Assoc. Prof. Yonca Özer, MEF University Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Department of Political Science and International Relations Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Beken Saatçioğlu and Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of International Relations Lecturer Assist. Prof. Özge Zihnioğlu discussed the European Commission Progress Reports on Turkey as well as the latest developments in Turkey-EU relations as panelists.

PANEL on “GENDER EQUALITY in TURKEY and the EU”

Mersin University Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations hosted a panel themed “Gender Equality in Turkey and the EU” on April 8, 2016 with the collobration of DEU Department of European Union, DEU Center for Research and Implementation for Occupational Health, and Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy. Prof. Dr. Tijen ERDUT, Prof. Dr. Zeki ERDUT and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ejder contributed to the panel with their presentations.

Jean Monnet Chair in Social Policy Team were welcomed warmly by the students and academics of Mersin University. The Panel started with the welcoming speeches by Ms. Aylin Kırcı Duman Vice-Governor of the city of Mersin, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Head of the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations. Panel was successful in drawing attention of students to the issue and making them feel involved in the solution process. Besides, Vice-Governor Ms. Duman made remarkable contributions to the issue of gender equality in Turkey by sharing her relevant experiences in various rural and urban parts of Turkey. The panel reached its aim of raising awareness about Jean Monnet Programme, European Union and EU policies regarding gender equality. The panel attracted students and academics to the issue and provided them a platform to think collaboratively about future.

Introductory Meeting for Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme

Introductory Meeting for Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme was held at Graduate School of Social Sciences Conference Hall in collaboration with the Ministry for EU Affairs, Directorate of Project Implementation on December 18, 2015 at 10.30.

Following to the presentation by EU Expert Ceyhan ÇİÇEK, Izmir representative of the Ministry for EU Affairs, the question-answer session was held. At the meeting, participants were informed about the training opportunities in the EU member states and the Jean Monnet scholarship, covering public administration, private sector, civil society, university staff and students.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (VAW)

An international conference on violence against women was organized in collaboration with DEU Graduate School of Social Science Department of EU Studies, LİYAKAT Association, Konak Municipality, ARCUS and Work in Progress.

The conference held on 14 December 2015 as part of a series of activities within “4Women (Kadınlar İçin)” Project, funded by the European Commission.

Following the opening speech by Head of LİYAKAT Association Berkay Eskinazi, Co-head of our department Assist. Prof. Dr. İlkay Taş delivered a speech on the status of women in Turkey within the EU-Turkey accession negotiations.

Mayor of Konak Municipality Sema Pekdaş, Italian Consul Luigi Iannuzzi and Head of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Assembly President Rebii Akdurak delivered speeches about the social and economic status of women in Turkey and Italy.

As the honour guest of the conference, Prof. Dr. Yakın Erturk talked about the historical development of women rights at the national and international level. Prof. Dr. Erturk served as a UN Special Reporter for long years and she is currently a member of the Executive Committee of Asylum and Migration Research Centre in Ankara.

The overall objective of 4WOMEN is to contribute to strengthen civil society participative democracy in order to support women human rights, stimulating a civil society friendly ‘environment’ and develop strong regional partnership between Turkey and the EU to promote gender equality and to help women build a stronger role in the civil society. 4WOMEN Project is implemented by the leader partner LİYAKAT Association in cooperation with the Italian partners ARCUS and WORK IN PROGRESS and with local partners KONAK Municipality and the EU Studies Department of Dokuz Eylul University. 4WOMEN Project analyses the phenomenon of gender violence from the prospective of the two main target groups: the prospective of the women victim, and the local organizations and operators working to protect them.

  Dokuz Eylul University Held a Meeting with the EU Ambassadors and University Students on “Syrian Refugee Crisis”

Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) in collaboration with ESIAD Izmir EU Information Centre and Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy held a meeting on 27 November 2015 with the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey and ambassadors of the EU member states. The theme of the meeting was “Syrian Refugee Crisis and Turkey-EU Relations”. Graduate students from related departments and Syrian students from various universities in Izmir also participated the meeting.

Following the opening speech by DEU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fuzun, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Ambassador Hansjörg Haber and Luxembourg Ambassador to Ankara Arlette Conzemius delivered their speeches.

In the interactive session of the meeting, Syrian students and the ambassadors discussed the ongoing crisis in Syria and its effects on the lives of many Syrian refugees in Turkey and specifically in Izmir. Syrian students informed the ambassadors about the economic and social problems of Syrian refugees in Izmır. Students also expressed their gratitude to Turkey for hosting Syrian people and her support to education of the Syrian students.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Ambassador Hansjörg Haber and EU ambassadors said that they will be in close cooperation with Turkey for the resolution of the crisis in Syria and settlement of Syrian refugees.

Panel:2015 European Year of Development: Construction of the Welfare Society

ESIAD Izmir EU Information Centre in collaboration with Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) European Documentation Centre and Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy organized a panel for the European Year of Development. The panel, named “2015 European Year of Development: Construction of the Welfare Society”, was held within the framework of a project financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey.

ESIAD Izmir EU Information Centre in collaboration with Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) European Documentation Centre and Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy organized a panel for the European Year of Development. The panel, named “2015 European Year of Development: Construction of the Peace and Welfare Society”, was held within the framework of a project financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey.

The panel was held on 13 November 2015 at DEU EU Documentation Centre. Many participants including academics, grad students and EU experts gathered for the discussions.

The panel started following the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Zeki ERDUT, Head of Department of European Union and Jean Monnet Chair on European Social Policy at DEU. At the first round of the discussions, Prof. Dr. Yaşar UYSAL from Department of Economics  at DEU, made a presentation on “EU Perspective on the Interaction of Development and Distribution in Turkey”. In the second round, Prof. Dr. Oğuz KARADENIZ from Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at Pamukkale University delivered a speech on “Evaluation of Social Security Reforms in Turkey and the EU from the Welfare Society Perspective”.

Panel: European Union as an Economic and Political Actor: Cases of Greece and Syria

Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) Department of European Union, DEU Center for Research and Implementation for Occupational Health and Yıldırım Beyazıt University Jean Monnet Chair organized a panel within the Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy activities funded by Erasmus+ Programme.

The panel, named “European Union as an Economic and Political Actor: Cases of Greece and Syria”, was held on 16 October 2015 at DEU European Documentation Centre. Academics, experts and graduate students from the related fields participated the panel.

Head of the Department of European Union and Jean Monnet Chair Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut made the opening speech of the panel.  While Yıldırım Beyazıt University Jean Monnet Chair Prof. Dr. Angelo Santagostino delivered a speech on “Outcome of the Greek Crisis: There is no Alternative to the EU”;  Assoc. Dr. Giray Sadık made a presentation named “European and Turkish Perspectives on Syrian Transnational Crisis”.

CONFERENCE ON “BREXIT AND ITS EFFECTS ON TURKEY – EU RELATIONS

The conference entitled “Brexit and its Effects on Turkey – EU Relations” was organised by Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences – Dokuz Eylul University in the framework of the Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission, in collaboration with Delegation of European Union to Turkey on December 23, 2016 at Dokuz Eylul University European Documentation Centre. The opening speech was given by Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of Department of the EU. Following the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Erdut, Prof. Dr. İpek Deveci Kocakoç – Vice Director of the Graduate School of Social Sciences – welcomed the participants on behalf of the Graduate School and emphasized the importance of the conference on Brexit which is a heated debate on international agenda.

The first presentation of the conference was given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kerem Batır, Faculty Member of Department of International Relations at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University and Head of the European Union Research and Application Center. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır, in his presentation entitled “Legal Dimension of the UK’s Withdrawal from the EU”, discussed Brexit within the context of international law, EU law, and the UK law systems. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır by mentioning the dual system of English law’s being a determining factor in this process, emphasized the difficulty of direct implementation of the June 2016 referenda results and the need for the Parliament’s approval. By reminding the fact that the UK has not yet officially applied to withdraw from the Union, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır stated that Scotland’s and Northern Ireland’s oppositions to the withdrawal decision increase the uncertainty of the process. Also evaluating the possible effects of Brexit on the Turkey-EU relations, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır pointed out that the different effects based on Turkey’s expectations from candidacy and eventual EU membership. Predicating that the relations will be affected especially with regard to visa requirements, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır underlined that in line with the Ankara Agreement between Turkey and the EU and the Association Council decisions, ease of traveling and residence in the UK as an EU member will become difficult after withdrawal. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır emphasized that this situation will influence Turkish citizens’ entry to the British labour market and residence rights.

Following Assoc. Prof. Dr. Batır’s presentation, Assist. Prof. Dr. Sinem Kocamaz, Faculty Member of Department of International Relations at Ege University evaluated the political dimension of Brexit in her presentation entitled “Brexit Process”. Assist. Prof. Dr. Kocamaz by adressing that the right wing political parties and protectionist discourses which are in rise since the 1960s are influential in the Brexit decision, stated that the increase in xenophobia and decrease in welfare performance remain at the forefront of the UK’s agenda and there is also a global reaction. Assist. Prof. Dr. Kocamaz stated that the existing political and economic alliance between the UK and the USA is also effective on this decision, current administrations of the two countries have a similar attitude on the international agenda and the EU policies do not comply with this situation. Also mentioning the possible effects of Brexit on the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Assist. Prof. Dr. Kocamaz emphasized that the UK’s withdrawal from the Union does not mean severing all ties with Europe. Assist. Prof. Dr. Kocamaz, especially with regard to military alliances, predicated that there will not be a radical change in the UK’s foreign policy and the UK will carry out bilateral relations with countries such as France and Russia and its policy regarding conflicts under the framework of the NATO membership and bilateral agreements. Assist. Prof. Dr. Kocamaz reminded that the contrary situation would cause trouble for the NATO’s intervention capacity which would be an unwanted effect for the European countries.

CONFERENCE ON EUROPEAN UNION IN THE ERA OF MIGRATION AND REFUGEE CRISES

The Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy, carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission, organized the conference, entitled “European Union in the Era of Migration and Refugee Crises” on May 9, 2017.

The conference was held at Dokuz Eylul University Conference Hall at Graduate School of Social Sciences with the attendance of Assist. Prof. Dr. Maciej CESARZ from University of Wrocław Department of European Studies. The conference began with the opening speech delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Banu DURUKAN SALI, Director of the Graduate School.

In his speech, Dr. CESARZ detailed the Migration and Refugee Crises since 2015 in line with the division among member states and possible outcomes for the Schengen Area. He then explained three possible scenarios for the future of EU, including the opportunities and the threats. He underlined the free movement of persons as one of the greatest achievements of the EU integration which is re-debated due to the crises. Dr. CESARZ pointed out that Turkey is an inalienable partner for the EU due to its geographical location.

The conference continued with the interactive session in which Dr. CESARZ answered the questions of the participants. At the end of the conference in which English-Turkish translation was made, Assist. Prof. Dr. İlkay TAŞ GÜRSOY, Vice Director of the Department, presented a document of appreciation to Dr. CESARZ.

CONFERENCE ON VISA POLICY AS A TOOL OF THE EU BORDER CONTROL

The Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy, carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission, organized the conference, entitled “Visa Policy as a Tool of the EU Border Control” on May 8, 2017.

The conference was held at Dokuz Eylul University European Documentation Centre with the attendance of Assist. Prof. Dr. Maciej CESARZ from University of Wrocław Department of European Studies. The conference began with the opening speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Zeki ERDUT, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of Department of the EU.

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. CESARZ briefly introduced the Schengen Area and EU’s Visa Policy from historical and legalist approaches. He underlined the free movement of persons as one of the greatest achievements of the EU integration. Following this introduction, he detailed the technical and bureaucratic dimensions of EU visa policy including the advantageous and disadvantages of extraterritorial control mechanisms.

Dr. CESARZ also went into the details of EU’s visa policy towards Turkey along with the readmission agreement signed in 2013 with the promise of visa-free movement for Turkish citizens. He finalised his speech that Turkey-EU relations in general and visa liberalisation process will be determined by Turkey’s progress in fulfilling the requirements demanded by the EU.

The conference continued with the interactive session in which Dr. CESARZ answered the questions of the participants. At the end of the conference in which English-Turkish translation was made, Prof. Dr. ERDUT presented a document of appreciation to Dr. CESARZ.

MEDITERRANEAN EUROPE METAL UNIONS CONFERENCE

 The “Mediterranean Europe Metal Unions Conference” was hosted by the Turkish Metal Trade Union on 03-06 May 2017 with the collaboration of Italian counterparts SindNova and FIM-CISL. The conference began with the presentation of Taliphan Kıymaz, Secretary General of the Turkish Metal Trade Union. The opening speeches of the conference were delivered by Secretary General of the FIM Marco Bentivogli, Deputy Secretary General of the Industriall European Trade Union Luis Colunga, and Senior Consultant of the ETUC Patrick Itschert.

As one of the speakers, Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of Department of the EU, delivered an  introductory presentation about the Mediterranean economic-productive context, the competition and mobility of business and workers, the role of the multinationals, the technological and organizational changes in production and labor. Prof. Erdut was accompanied by Ercüment Işık, Board Chairman of the Association of Social Policy and Development, and Philippe Portier, Secretary General of the FGMM/CFDT during the session.

SEMINAR ON INTELLECTUAL AND INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

The Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy, carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission, organized the seminar entitled “Procedure for Investigation of Crimes on Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights” on 28 April 2017.

The conference was held at Dokuz Eylul University European Documentation Centre with the attendance of Izmir Public Prosecutor Ali Osman KAYNAK as the speaker. The conference began with the opening speeches delivered by Prof. Dr. Zeki ERDUT, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of Department of the EU, and Prof. Dr. Banu DURUKAN SALI, Director of the Graduate School of Social Sciences.

At the beginning of his speech, Prosecutor KAYNAK briefly talked about the scope of intellectual and industrial property rights. Following this introduction, he informed the audience about the current legal legislation on property rights, and the investigation procedure in case of a crime against these rights. The seminar continued with the interactive session in which Prosecutor KAYNAK answered the questions of the participants.

The Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy, carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission, organized the conference entitled “Which Solution on Cyprus? Recent Developments on Negotiations” on 21 April 2017. The conference was held at Dokuz Eylul University European Documentation Centre with the attendance of H.E. Ambassador Burak Ozugergin as the speaker.

The conference began with the opening speeches delivered by Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of Department of the EU, and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayse Okur. At the beginning of his speech, H.E. Ambassador Ozugergin presented the Turkish policy towards the Cyprus issue, and positions of the other parties with a historical perspective. Then, Ambassador Ozugergin gave brief information on the recent developments on negotiations that have been carried out under the “Good Offices Mission” of the United Nations Secretary-General.

At the end of the interactive session with questions and comments, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayse Okur presented a document of appreciation to Ambassador Ozugergin.

WORKSHOP ON “ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND YOUTH EMPLOYMENT IN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND TURKEY”

The workshop, entitled Entrepreneurship and Youth Employment in the European Union and Turkey was held on April 14, 2017 at Pamukkale University in Denizli.

The workshop was organized by the Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy carried out by the Department of European Union at the Graduate School of Social Sciences – Dokuz Eylul University and the Center for Research and Implementation for Occupational Health in cooperation with the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS)- Pamukkale University.

The workshop brought researchers and students together from different disciplines such as European Studies, Labor Economics and Industrial Relations and Management Information Systems. In addition to being interdisciplinary, the workshop was also an important millieu for establishing a network of academic co-operation among academics, researchers and students from different universities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hülya KABAKÇI KARADENİZ from Honaz Vocational School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağla ÜNLÜTÜRK ULUTAŞ from the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations of Pamukkale University participated the workshop. Besides, Assist. Prof. Dr. Sühal ŞEMŞİT, Coordinator of International Relations Office and faculty member of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of Manisa Celal Bayar University and Assist. Prof. Dr. Sedef EYLEMER, Vice-Dean of the the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and faculty member of the Department of International Relations of Izmir Katip Çelebi University participated the workshop. Prof. Dr. Tijen ERDUT from the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations and Assist. Prof. Dr. İlkay TAŞ GÜRSOY from RMF Faculty of Tourism of Dokuz Eylul University participated the workshop. With the contribution of academics from different universities and from different fields of study, the geographical and institutional influence of the workshop was enriched.

The workshop started with the opening speech by Prof. Dr. Zeki ERDUT, Jean Monnet Chair and Head of the Department of European Union. Prof. Dr. ERDUT gave information about Erasmus+ and Jean Monnet Programme and shared his experiences regarding Jean Monnet Projects.

Prof. Dr. Oğuz KARADENİZ, Head of the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences – Pamukkale University, explained the conceptual framework about entrepreneurship and shared examples of  entrepreneurship. After emphasizing the relationship between entrepreneurship and employee productivity, Prof. Dr. KARADENIZ underlined that that labor turnover rate decreases as the productivity increases.

Assist. Prof. Dr. İbrahim AKSEL from Department of Management Information Systems Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Pamukkale University discussed the concepts of employability and youth employment and explained how entrepreneurship priorities can be reconciled with the goal of increasing youth employment, the presentation was enriched with examples.

The workshop ended with a question-answer and discussion session.  We thank to the academic staff and students of the  Pamukkale University for the warm welcome and fruitful discussions.
