JEAN MONNET CHAIR IN SOCIAL COHESION PROJECT

FIRST OF THE INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP SERIES WITH SOCIAL SECURITY CONTROLLERS ON LABOUR MARKET STRUCTURE AND CRISIS

VENUE: REPUBLIC OF TURKEY IZMIR PROVINCIAL DIRECTORATE OF SOCIAL SECURITY INSTITUTION

First of the Interactive Workshop Series with Social Security Controllers on Labour Market Structure and Crisis was organized on 30 May 2019 at Izmir Provincial Directorate of Social Security Institution of Republic of Turkey with the participation of Izmir Provincial Director Ekrem GÜLCEMAL, Supervisor Controller Alper ÇELİKKOL and 20 social security controllers as well as four key staff of the project. The first part of the event was informative by setting the ground for the second part which was focused on discussion. The head of the Department of EU Studies, Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy, Prof. Dr. Zeki ERDUT, initially introduced the core issues of the workshop as well as the background of the Jean Monnet Chair in Social Cohesion.

The frontal workshop introduced the crisis at large, migration and its dimensions, labour market structure in Turkey and the EU. In the second part of the workshop which was interactive and participatory, the participants exchanged ideas and experiences on labour market implementations. The debates mainly concentrated on the the impact of Syrian refugee crisis on the social security system of Turkey and implications in the region of Izmir.

WORKSHOP ON “CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE EU”

VENUE: THE CENTRAL LIBRARY OF DOKUZ EYLÜL UNIVERSITY, EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION CENTER 

As part of the activities the Jean Monnet Chair in Social Cohesion carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences, a workshop titled “Current Developments in the EU”  was held at the Central Library of Dokuz Eylül University, European Documentation Center on May 2, 2019, Thursday at 13:30. At the event, opening speech was delivered by Professor Zeki Erdut, the head of the Department of EU Studies, Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy. Professor Erdut underlined the importance of Europe Day and made an evaluation on current developments in the EU.

The workshop was enriched by the discussion part that the participants actively contributed after Professor Erdut’s speech. In this context, current topics such as Brexit, the future of European integration process, EU-China relations, European social policy, rising of far-right parties, migration management, the Balkans, the euro crisis, Turkey-EU relations were discussed.

CONFERENCE ON “1974 CYPRUS PEACE OPERATION: A CONCEPTUAL DEBATE”

VENUE: THE CENTRAL LIBRARY OF DOKUZ EYLÜL UNIVERSITY, EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION CENTER 

As part of the activities the Jean Monnet Chair in Social Cohesion carried out by the Department of European Union at Graduate School of Social Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Altuğ GÜNAL’s presentation titled “1974 Cyprus Peace Operation: A Conceptual Debate”  was held at the Central Library of Dokuz Eylül University, European Documentation Center on May 2, 2019, Thursday at 13:30. At the event, opening speech was delivered by Professor Zeki Erdut, the head of the Department of EU Studies, Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy.

Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Günal made evaluation on the historical background of the Cyprus Peace Operation and gave point to the operation within the framework of humanitarian intervention.

CONFERENCE ON “BALKANS IN THE 19th CENTURY: A PANAROMIC PERSPECTIVE”

VENUE: THE CENTRAL LIBRARY OF DOKUZ EYLÜL UNIVERSITY, EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION CENTER 

A conference titled  “Balkans in the 19th Century: A Panaromic Perspective” was held with the presentation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Alper Arısoy, on 18 April 2019, Thursday as the part of a series of activities to be carried out by the Jean Monnet Chair in Social Cohesion. Opening speech was delivered by Professor Zeki Erdut, the head of the Department of EU Studies, Jean Monnet Chair in European Social Policy.

A faculty member from the Department of International Business Administration and Trade at Dokuz Eylül University’s Business Faculty, Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Arısoy evaluated the conceptual and historical framework of the Balkans and the transformation of the Balkan cities to the present day on the basis of a panoramic perspective.

TRAINING OF THE PROJECT TEAM MEMBERS

ON MIGRATION AND TRAUMA”

As the part of activities of the Jean Monnet Chair in Social Cohesion, Dr. Kutay TAŞ gave a training to the members of the project team about post traumatic stress disorder and how to approach to people who experience trauma. Dr. TAŞ is a medical doctor specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry, at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Adnan Menderes University, Aydın. He is a member of the JM Chair project team.  The training was held on 3 March, 2019, between 13.00 and 15:30 at the European Documentation Centre and Expert.

INTRODUCTORY MEETING FOR JEAN MONNET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Introductory Meeting for Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme was held at Graduate School of Social Sciences Conference Hall in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for EU Affairs on 18 October 2018 at 14.30. At the meeting, it was mentioned that 180 scholarships would be granted for the 2019-2020 academic year. Participants were informed about the training opportunities in the EU member states and the Jean Monnet scholarship covering public administration, private sector, civil society, university staff and students.
